NASCAR is one of the most popular sports in America – and its history dates back to before cars were invented.

The roots of NASCAR go back to Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. A consumption tax imposed on whiskey by the federal government in 1791, which caused the anger of farmers. The tax is seven cents per gallon of whiskey. Many farmers have converted their crops of corn into alcohol, because the grain is difficult to transport to the mountains. Hence, whiskey tax would seriously jeopardize their livelihoods.

Ironically, the tax has been imposed by the United States to help pay for debts incurred by the federal government during the War of Independence – a war that has place in the unjust imposition by the government.

Many areas of the west United States was not satisfied with the taxation, the federal government. They felt that the government played a negligible role in their lives, and now it was taking away their hard – earned. Consequently, many simply refused to pay the government agents who came to collect their taxes. The agents were often attacked and beaten, while farmers paying the tax has become an object of ridicule among his neighbors.

In the summer of 1794 the rebellion reached its climax when a federal agent was attacked and the home of a regional inspector has been burned. U.S. President George Washington had had enough and ended up sending 13,000 troops led by General Harry Lee (father Robert E. Lee) and Washington itself to suppress the riots.

Many rebels fled before the militia could arrive. The incident served to show that the U.S. Federal Government could successfully assert his power over the states. Eventually, a dozen men have been arrested but were later pardoned. As Excise which started the whole rebellion was repealed in 1801.

What does all this have to do with NASCAR?

To overcome the tax, many farmers began converting grain whiskey sold in secret and in hiding. In this way, not in the government that had whiskey, and not have to deliver tax revenues.

This has created the roots of the smuggling industry. It has become an important part of many southern states for the next century before bursting in 1920 and 1930. These are the years that the U.S. government has banned the sale of alcohol – which means that dealers are the only way to get a bottle of alcohol.

As a result, the smuggling industry has become more active than ever … and also was under federal control. To escape the federal agents, smugglers developed ultra-fast cars to escape from their vehicles. In turn, these cars Racing has become a popular sport. If the ban was eventually repealed, the popularity of cars remains … and was held in 1938 the first official NASCAR race.

So if you want a NASCAR race on television or on stage, remember – which is based on the tradition that predates even the first car. In fact, It is part of the history of the America does.
